M77 Recovery

Recovery support on the M77 — from the M8 split past Silverburn and Newton Mearns towards Ayrshire.

The M77 peels off the M8 near the Kingston Bridge and runs south-west past Pollok and Silverburn, through Newton Mearns, and out over the exposed Fenwick Moor towards Kilmarnock and the Ayrshire coast. It is a fast road with long gaps between junctions on the southern stretch — not where you want a warning light to turn into a full stop.

Glasgow Recovery Help connects drivers with local recovery support for breakdowns and incidents on the M77 and its junctions.

Where breakdowns happen on the M77

The city end sees dense commuter traffic around the Dumbreck and Pollok junctions and the Silverburn turn-off. Further south, Fenwick Moor is notorious for winter weather — high winds, standing water and snow closures — which turns minor faults into roadside stops.

If it's an emergency, call 999 first

If anyone is injured, if your vehicle is in a live traffic lane, or if there is any immediate danger, contact the emergency services before anything else. Your safety comes first.

If you've broken down or had an incident

  • Get yourself and passengers to a safe place, away from moving traffic where possible.
  • Switch on hazard lights and, if you have one and it's safe, place a warning triangle well behind the vehicle.
  • Wear a hi-vis vest if you have one, especially at night or in poor weather.

What recovery on the M77 involves

Once you are somewhere safe to wait — hard shoulder, slip road or a nearby street — recovery can collect the vehicle and take it to a garage, your home or another destination. On the moor stretch, be precise about location: a junction number, marker post or what3words reference makes finding you far quicker.

Other routes we cover

Breakdowns rarely respect route boundaries. We also cover M8 recovery, M74 recovery, M80 recovery, M73 recovery, and our motorway recovery Glasgow page covers the network as a whole.

Good to know

Frequently asked questions

I've broken down in a live lane — what do I do?

Do not get out into moving traffic. Keep your seatbelt on, switch on your hazard lights and call 999 straight away. The police and traffic authorities will make the scene safe. Recovery of the vehicle comes after everyone is safe.

I've broken down on Fenwick Moor in bad weather. Any advice?

Get well away from the carriageway behind the barrier if you can, wrap up, and call 999 if you feel at risk — the moor stretch is exposed and visibility drops quickly. Give recovery a precise location: marker post, junction or what3words.

Can recovery collect from a slip road or the hard shoulder?

Yes. Once you are in a position where it is safe to stop and wait, recovery can typically collect from a hard shoulder, slip road, layby or nearby street. Share your exact location, a junction number or a what3words reference in your request.

Is motorway recovery available at night?

We are in our launch phase and are preparing round-the-clock routing. You can send a request at any hour and we will be honest about what is available rather than promising overnight dispatch we cannot yet back up.
